Efficient Remote Drilling Operations with Automated Real-time Alerts

The alerts and notifications center in the Nvicta AI platform is designed to help your remote operations center get the most value from real-time monitoring of drilling operations. Using this automated monitoring system, remote-ops personnel can be immediately notified of various drilling events and anomalies, such as:

  • Suboptimal drilling KPIs such as low ROP and high MSE

  • Erratic behavior in drilling parameters

  • Well control events

  • Mud motor failure indicators

  • Directional performance inefficiencies

Adoption of Nvicta's automated alerting system can provide significant value to your operations through:

  • Immediate Detection of Drilling Anomalies: Automated alerts notify your team when certain pre-defined thresholds are reached.

  • Resource Efficiency: Rather than having humans constantly monitor vast amounts of data or logs, automated alerts allow for efficient resource allocation. People can focus on other tasks, only intervening when an alert indicates potential issues.

  • Consistency: Nvicta AI ensures that checks are made with the same criteria every time, reducing human error and ensuring consistency.

  • Actionable Insights: Nvicta AI's sophisticated alerting systems can not only notify of a drilling anomaly but also provide insights and corrective actions to improve drilling performance.

  • Trend Detection: Over time, an accumulation of certain alerts can indicate a trend. Real-time monitoring with alerts can help your team spot these trends early, enabling preventive action before minor issues escalate.

  • Cost Efficiency: Automated alerts can often prevent small issues from becoming major, expensive problems. The early detection and resolution of issues can translate to significant cost savings in the long run.

Raw or Calculated Metrics

Alerts in the notification system can be set up using both raw and custom WITS metrics. These metrics range from straightforward EDR attributes like block height or ROP, collected from the WITS stream, to custom MWD traces like pulse width, which may also be present on the WITS network.

Calculated metrics can serve as the basis for alerts as well. Some of these include:

  • MSE

  • Depth of cut

  • Bit Aggressiveness

  • Slide efficiency

  • Slide distance

  • Target efficiency

  • Distance to plan

  • Distance to offsets

Once a specific trace has been selected, the alerting criteria can be modified to make the system less or more sensitive. For instance, the attributes can be min/max or averaged over a certain time or depth interval to reduce or increase the alerting frequency.

Rig-State and Conditional Alerts

Nvicta's notification center allows users to create advanced multi-rule alerts directly from the platform's UI, minimizing false alarms without any coding required.

For example, the user can create the following advanced alert in a matter of seconds:

Notify us when:
The average ROP over a 10-minute interval has changed by 10%. AND
The average WOB over a 10-minute period is above 40 klb AND
Rig state is a Rotary Drilling

Pre-Designed Smart Alerts

Nvicta's alerts also include advanced pattern recognition and physics-based model-based alerts. These alerts can be set on various attributes based on the output of the following modules:

  • Torque and drag and drilling buckling

  • Hole clearing

  • Hydraulics

  • Mud motor spike detection

  • Directional projections and recommendations

  • Connection malpractice detection

Pre-configured alerts streamline operations, enabling your team members to choose a targeted use case, eliminating the need to design their own model for drilling anomalies.

Notification Methods and Sharing

Nvicta conveniently notifies the remote-ops team members in various ways. The dashboard provides the capability to be notified visually or through voice read-outs. Team members can opt for timely emails, concise text messages, or even instant WhatsApp messages, ensuring that they receive critical updates in the manner most convenient for them.

Once a notification is created, users can share it with team members to ensure everyone is alerted to the same events.
